The matrix

Seven roles × seven functions

Every governed AI operation staffs these functions, whether or not it has named them. Titles vary between organizations; functions do not.

The seven functions, one line each

FunctionThe question it answers
AuthorityWho is allowed to decide what, and where is that written?
ControlsWhat constrains the system at the moment it acts?
EvidenceCan we prove what happened, after the fact, to someone hostile?
EvaluationIs the system still doing what we validated it to do?
CostWhat does each unit of work cost, and who owns the budget line?
EscalationWhen the system is unsure or wrong, who gets pulled in, and how fast?
AccountabilityWhen something goes wrong, whose name is on it?
How to use this page: circle the three functions you have genuinely performed in your current discipline. The role whose dots overlap your circles most is your first target. The full method, with scoring and a 90-day plan, is in the Transferable Skills to AI Governance Guide.
